Oddball Eddie Strikes Again

Ed in Maryland has sent me three boxes of Cubs cards and I send him Orioles. His boxes are like Christmas morning because they typically include oddballs and vintage that are new to my collection.

This latest box featured more than 800 Cubs cards and a few oddball additions. The first is an oddball Ernie Banks. It appears this black and white piece is part of some Strat-O-Matic type game. It’s slightly smaller than a traditional sized baseball card. I’ll have to do some research, or a Twitter call out to find what set this is from and add the other Cubs to my want list.

I’m always impressed when I receive the cards that have been cut out by collectors be it Hostess, or the cards from Baseball Cards Magazine or the below Ryne Sandberg from Sports Card Price Guide Monthly.

What’s impressing is that it seems every other collector on Earth has better precision with scissors than I have!

This Cap Anson card is from 1994 Upper Deck. It’s new to my collection, but what I like about it is not too many cards have been made about the early days of the Cubs organization from the 1800’s. One likely reason is lack of photos from this time period.

It’s not an oddball, but it’s a cool card of Kerry Wood from 1999 Skybox.

On to the vintage. More Mr. Cub! Here’s a 1969 Topps of Ernie Banks.

Check out this Hall of Fame lineup….

From 1966 Topps it’s the National League Home Run Leaders card featuring Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and “sweet swingin” Billy Williams.

A trio of 1971 Topps Johnny Callison cards. And get ready this will be the design of the 2020 Topps Heritage sets.

Going back a decade is a couple cards from 1961 Topps. Here’s Al Heist and Dick Drott.

As always, a great box of Cubs baseball cards from Ed.
