Two boxes arrived on Thursday, one via trade and another via purchase from a minor league team store.
One week earlier I attended the Cubs/Reds game at Wrigley Field. I bought a New Era hat and a Cubs team set to earn a pack of the rare Topps New Era cards.
Ben from California reached out interested in trading for a Rickey Henderson if I pulled it. In fact I did pull that Henderson and Ben offered up a box of 391 Cubs cards for it.
The box was filled with some nice Cubs, including rookies, inserts, and refractors. Even 19 empty top loaders, which always come in handy. A number of cards inside are new to the collection including a trio of Ryne Sandberg cards. The 1991 Star Nova is very colorful.
I do have these Starlin Castro rookie cards, but they’re nice cards.
A 2016 Topps Chrome refractor Ben Zobrist.
Kerry Wood 2011 Topps Update Diamond.
Albert Almora 2012 Elite Extra Edition.
This 2011 Elite Extra Edition Dan Vogelbach features him in a Bishop Verot high school uniform.
My first 2017 Kris Bryant National Baseball Card Day card.
And a 1988 Jiffy Pop Andre Dawson. I’m watching Ozark as I type this, and popcorn sounds pretty good.
Three more Javier Baez cards are added to the collection.
On Monday I went shopping in the online Myrtle Beach Pelicans team store. They had great deals on team sets, and with the purchase of a team set you could get a Pelicans binder for just $5 (normally $12). I was very disappointed when I opened my box to find a mini binder. The pages only hold four cards. I’ll likely just stash it away.
In total, I bought four team sets. One from each of the last four seasons. This year’s set includes Aramis Ademan, who is the Cubs top prospect by some outlets. The 2017 set includes Eloy Jimenez and Adbert Alzolay. The 2016 set includes Gleyber Torres, Ian Happ, and David Bote. The 2015 set has Jeimer Candelario and Victor Caratini.
